BLUE HEAT BLANKS RUSH
Santa Clarita stays on top of Western Conference with 3-0 win
Highlands Ranch, Colorado (June 9, 2011) – Traveling to Colorado for their first matches of the season with the Rush and Force, the Santa Clarita Blue Heat maintained its Western Conference lead with a 3-0 win over the Rush today at Valor Christian High School.
With only eight minutes ticked off the clock, Ann Marie Tangorra netted the first Blue Heat goal off of a pass from Team of the Week midfielder Edite Fernandes. Nearly ten minutes later, Tangorra offered Fernandes a nice cross for the second goal of the game and Fernandes’ fifth goal of the season. Then, Janet Mendez scored the third goal off of another Fernandes assist.
The Rush came into the second half with a vengeance, holding the Blue Heat scoreless for the remainder of the match. Santa Clarita Goalkeeper Cynthia Jacobo again had an outstanding game with four of five key saves in the second half.
“Cynthia is a very athletic keeper and has natural talent that we don’t often see,” said Blue Heat Goalkeeper Trainer Alejandro Carrero. “Every week, she learns more to increase her confidence and motivation to perform at a very top level.”
The Blue Heat record improves to 5-0-1 and they will face the Colorado Force on Saturday, June 11 at the University of Northern Colorado for a 7:00 pm kickoff.
The next home game for Santa Clarita is on June 28. For more information about the Santa Clarita Blue Heat, tickets and camps, visit www.SCBlueHeat.com
