BLUE HEAT WIN TOUGH MATCH

Santa Clarita blanks Force 1-0 to remain undefeated

Greeley, Colorado (June 11, 2011) – The Blue Heat played one of their most difficult matches on Saturday, outlasting the Force with a 1-0 triumph at the University of Northern Colorado’s Jackson Field.

The only score for the Blue Heat came as a result of a penalty kick awarded to the Blue Heat in the 12th minute of play when forward Ann Marie Tangorra was fouled in the box. Edite Fernandes punched in the penalty shot to the left of Force goalkeeper Hannah Clark.

The game was a defensive battle for the Blue Heat with the Force aggressively moving the ball into scoring position many times, taking 11 shots, with Santa Clarita goalkeeper Cynthia Jacobo saving six. Force goalkeeper Hannah Clark also had six saves to the Blue Heat’s nine shots. In the end, neither team was able to score after Fernandes’ initial goal.

“This game was a true test for our players,” said Head Coach Fabian Sandoval. “This game, by far, was probably the hardest fought and most difficult three points to earn of the season – the Force is an incredibly well organized, talented and intense opponent and we look forward to facing them in our next game at home at the end of June.”

The Blue Heat remains undefeated with a 6-0-1 record. Their next game is not until June 28 in the home rematch against the Force.
