BLUE HEAT, PALI BLUES BATTLE TO DRAW

Second game for Santa Clarita ends at 0-0

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – Eager to capitalize on the momentum from their first game last Sunday, the Santa Clarita Blue Heat clashed with an aggressive Pali Blues team on Thursday night in Pacific Palisades. But when the dust settled, the game had ended in a 0-0 draw.

The Blue Heat came out aggressively in the first half with strong performances by all four midfielders: Edite Fernandes, Janet Mendez, Holly Heins and Stacy Rodwell and successive shots by Ann Marie Tangorra and Hannah Beard. The defensive line performed brilliantly and included key saves by Goalkeeper Cynthia Jacobo. Never letting up, the Blue Heat continued challenging Pali through to the final whistle with two breakaways and near misses by subs Ann Franco and Melissa Fernandez in the final minutes.

Head Coach Fabian Sandoval was extremely pleased with his team’s intensity against the two-time W-League Champions.

“Given that this is only our second game and we were working for the win, there is tremendous cohesion and drive among these players,” said Sandoval. “Overall, it was a really good performance by the entire team.”

The Blue Heat will face the LA Strikers in Pasadena on Sunday, May 29 at 7:00 pm before returning to Santa Clarita on June 3 for a two-game home stand.
